All Dogs Welcome

Picture
Big Mama is a loving senior looking for a “furever” home. Like most seniors, she loves the morning and is done being active by about 8pm. She doesn’t like to be bothered at night when she’s trying to relax. She eats great and doesn’t mind going outside. She likes riding in the car and coming to work with me and sleeping under my desk. She is indifferent to the three other dogs in the house. The cats are a different story. They drive her crazy. She barks and chases them and really needs to be in a home with no cats. I don’t think she’d mind being in a home with kids, but she really deserves to have a quiet, comfortable home to live out her last few years. She’s a sweet girl and would make a great companion.

Peaches

02/10/2013

Picture
Peaches is a very young Beagle puppy that was found as a stray. We estimate that she was likely born during the month of August 2012.

Peaches lives up to her name; she is just a peach of a puppy. She’s around 5 months old and all goofy puppy! She’s full of wonder and play, and loves nothing more than a good game of fetch or a good sniff around the yard. Peaches is also becoming an expert snuggler. She adores everyone she meets. She loves children, ignores cats, and loves to play with other dogs. Peaches is such a nice dog that she wants to be everyone’s friend. She’s even a good bed buddy, but will sleep in her crate.

Sparky

02/10/2013

Picture
Sparky is just like his name…a little fireplug. He is a sweetheart and will warm up to other dogs quickly as well as people. He is quite the little lover and will show you love. He is potty trained and will straight for the door when requested to go out and potty. He walks well on a harness and leash with other dogs. He face is super cute in that he almost looks like a puggle in the face but a dachshund body. He is a pretty chestnut color and he knows it. He comes up the stairs with a here I come attitude. He was a stray but I think his previous owner just didn’t look for him…he is a cutie and fun. He will calm down when his person settles. Sparky loves to be outside as well and knows to do his business while outside.

Nekko

02/10/2013

Picture
Nekko is a Jackshund! That means he is a Dachshund mixed with Jack Russell Terrier. He is only 1.5 years old and came into rescue because medical problems in his family left them unable to care for him properly.

Nekko weighs about 12 pounds, likes other dogs and enjoys barking at the cats! He is housebroken using a doggie door and is crate trained, but honestly does not need to be crated. He came from a home that had young children and enjoyed playing with them.

Thunder

02/10/2013

Picture
Meet Thunder! He’s a “middle aged” long hair dachshund. He’s a very well behaved, sweet little man that adores attention. But once you start petting him, watch out! If you stop before he decides he’s had enough attention from you, he’ll nudge your arm or try to climb on you until you resume the petting. If his foster father is lying on the couch, he’ll climb up until they’re nose to nose. We like to think of it as his way of letting you know he’s there for you. Now when he’s not demanding your undivided attention like any good doxie would, Thunder likes to sprawl out under tables or beds.

He’s a very easy going little guy, and loves to cuddle. He’ll get in playful moods and start running and jumping around, especially when you come home and he knows he’s getting a treat. Thunder behaves well with other dogs, but will often want to stay by himself and doesn’t appreciate another pet in his space. He is house trained, but needs to be taken out frequently. Thunder also knows what a crate is and doesn’t get stressed when in one, but it’s not recommended for more than a few hours. He’s not a barker, but if something outside startles him he will bark a little. He does well in big storms and if he gets scared he’ll just find a nice little space to crawl into, usually around the pillows on the couch.

Lexi

02/09/2013

Picture
Lexi's foster Mom described her as "a precious girl that is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet." She wants nothing more than to be with you every moment of the day! Like a little red shadow she will follow you EVERYWHERE! Don't try to walk out the door without her- nimble and quick, in a flash she'll slide through that door before it has a chance to swing shut behind you! She probably does that because she's worried her people will leave her forever again.

But thanks to the efforts of Furever Dachshund Rescue Lexi has a home and a family and will learn to stay put because they'll always be there for her!

Ginger

02/09/2013

Picture
Hi, I am Ginger and I am (in my opinion) a very nice little girl that has had a bit of bad luck. You see, I lost my home and ended up in a shelter but do not know why. Shelters are not nice places for little sweet girls like me. The shelter told my foster Mom, I am around three years old. I am not a problem really, I love playing in a yard, belly rubs and kisses. I do sleep in an open crate and play nicely with the other fosters in my house.

Luckily for Ginger she was rescues by Furver Dachshund Rescue and has now found her furever home and family.

Tillie

02/09/2013

Picture
Tillie was pulled from an overcrowded shelter. At first she was quite timid and distrustful of people. But her foster family has done a great job teaching her that it's OK to love and trust. She really enjoys playing with the other dogs in her foster home. And despite being somewhat rambunctious, as young dogs can be, she seems to know enough to be gentle with dogs that are smaller than she. She is crate trained and house broken - but needs to be kept on a schedule. She is quite young and since being 'housebroken' is probably new to her she will likely get much better at it!

And thanks to the efforts of Pup Dog Rescue she'll now get the chance to have a family of her own to love and trust!

Becki

01/24/2013

Picture
Becki is a pretty little red and white Piebald Doxie. She is 2 years old and weighs a mere 12 pounds. This young girl was found along with 25 other dogs dumped on a rural Virginia Road. FRD took Becki and several other dogs into rescue. She is sweet and dis great in her foster home. She mastered the doggy door to get in and out of the back yard, plays nicely with the other fosters in the home and goes to her crate when she is tired.

And now, thanks to the efforts of Forever Dachshund Rescue Becki has gone to her furever home with a family all her own.
