Meet COOKIE, one of the sweetest little seniors out there! She is furry laid back, mild mannered and full of kisses and love that she demonstrates freely! Even though she’s 11 she still has energy to do what she wants. Her favorite past time is to watch the squirrels and fend her fosters honor by pawtekting them from those pesky varmints!

My BIO:
Hi!€ My name is Cookie. I am a lovable, mild-mannered, laid back girl. I like kids. My parents recently split and couldn’t take me with them. I think I’ve adapted well although I do need a lot of love and attention because I’m concerned about being abandoned again, thinking maybe I had done something wrong.  My foster parents and step foster parents have shown me lots of love, hugs and kisses and have let me know that I am still very special and someone is out there just waiting for me to give me a good home. My temporary home has two dachshunds and a temporary Dachsie visitor and I stayed with another really great foster mom for a week and they had kids and a cat and I just loved staying with those kids and I was very interested in the cat who was having none of it, so not sure of what I would have done if I could have got close...
I love to curl up on the couch next to you and give you lots of kisses or snuggle down under my blankie in my bed. I walk well with a harness but fight the collar. My foster mom just put in a doggie door and I love that! I can go outside anytime I want so I have become a huge lover of the outdoors and squirrel watching is my new favorite hobby. My other favorite thing in the whole wide world is curling up in my warm toastie pet cave. I also enjoy treats and am always anxious for a good meal, obviously I am a dachshund! I know my bio says that I am 11 years old, but except for the beautiful white nose, you wouldn’t know it. I'm very laid back and don't bark. But it alos makes me eligible for that special program called Seniors Loving Seniors! I’m not cranky or sluggish, but I’m not a bounce off the wall young pup either. I’m just right, right in the middle, with just enough energy to have fun with you or just chill out with you.
Will you please consider giving me a permanent home?

If you would like to learn more about me please contact my foster Mom, Charlotte Mixon, at fureverdachsie@yahoo.com. I currently reside in North Caroline but Furever Dachshund Rescue encourages out of state adoptions and will help to arrange volunteer or paid transport to get me to my new home.

Why hello there, I'm Halk the Coon-hound mix. Maybe you could help me, I'm looking for a new forever or foster home. Know anyone who's willing to give an ol'boy a chance? I'm about 12-13 years old (healthy and fully vaccinated) and until recently I had a good home with plenty of love. But then my best friend got really sick and in an instant I was abandoned at Animal Care and Control (an open door shelter) by his people family. For a while, I just laid there, I missed my owner so much and it gets lonely when you're used to being with someone all the time, even more than for most dogs, I imagine. It didn't seem like long until I was told I was gonna be "put down" soon. In such a short time, I lost my owner, my warm and loving home and now I was going to lose my life, too. But you know what? Through it all I never lost hope and like a dream Gloria and the rest of the crew at Famous Fido came and got me in my 11th hour and I got a second chance to find a new home.

I have been fostered before, but that didn't work out. I'm crashing at a volunteer's house now, but since I'm not neutered (at 12 when I was abandoned at ACC, I was a little to old to have the procedure done) I can't stay long since she has other dogs. I stayed at STAY DOG HOTEL last week and had a great time (they said I was great except for not loving the crate, but can you blame me?). I would be a great companion to an older couple or family, but would rather not live with other animals or kids. I am really not used to such an uncertain life and really need a good home (foster or permanent). I'm getting really lonely and just need some love and attention. Please share my story and help me find a place to live out my golden years in peace. I really am a great dog who deserves a real chance at a good home.

Famous Fido is located in the Chicago area. If you are interested in learning more about Morty or any of the other dogs cared for by Famous Fido Rescue please call 773-907-0305 or email fido@famousfidorescue.com.

Hi! My name is Romeo. I am a loving, laid back regal middle aged Doxie. I like kids. My parents recently split and couldn’t take me with them. I think I’ve adapted well although I do try extra hard to show you how much I love you and need your attention because I’m concerned about being abandoned again. My foster parents and step foster parents have shown me lots of love, hugs and kisses and have let me know that I am still very special and someone is out there just waiting for me to give me a good home. My temporary home has two dachshunds and a temporary Doxie visitor and I stayed with another really great foster mom for a week and they had kids and a cat and I did great.
I love to curl up on the couch next to you snuggled down under my blankie. I walk well with a harness only but fight the collar. I enjoy treats and am always anxious for a good meal. I am 10, but show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. I love to play with a ball if you will bounce it or throw it, I’ll fetch it and bring it back to you and even play some keep away with you. I’m basically quiet and don’t get upset with passing cars or squirrels in the yard. Will you please consider giving me a permanent home?

Romeo described himself as a 'regal middle aged' boy. But the truth is he's 10 years old and that makes him eligible for Furever Dachshund Rescues Seniors Loving Seniors Program. If you have any concerns about adopting a senior dog please read the Top 10 Reasons for Adopting a Senior Dog - it's so worth it. You will get a lifetime of love!

Romeo currently resides in Massachusettes but Furever Dachshund encourages out of state adoptions. If you are interested in learning more about Romeo please view his personal profile or contact his foster Mom Laura at chair@fureverdachshundrescue.org

I'm Frank and I have been told that I am a wonderful happy loving little guy and I just need a new home to call my own. I may be around 10 in my actual age but I am young in my heart and actions. I love people, snuggling, and playing in the yard with my foster brothers and human family. My foster mom says I am about PERFECT!!

Frank is a 10 year old Dachshund that gets along well with other dogs, cats and children. He is housebroken, uses a doggie door, and is crate trained.

And because of his age he is eligible for the Seniors Loving Seniors Program! He is currently located in Virginia but Furever Dachshund Rescue encourages out of state adoptions.

If you are interested in leaning more about Frank please view his personal profile or contact his foster Mom Yolanda at doxierescuer@aol.com.

Mia is a beautiful little red smooth coated Dachshund. See that frosty white face? That's because she's 10 years old! And that makes her eligible for the Seniors Loving Seniors Program.

Here's what her foster Mom had to say about her:

Mia is a senior girl looking for a home of her own to be held and given lots of belly rubs. She is fully house trained however like most doxies does not like to get her feet wet or go out in cold weather. Raised in a family with four doxies she is used to other dogs and lots of activity. She initially came into rescue with the other doxies due to the family having a run of bad luck and no longer being able to care for any of the dogs. Mia was recently returned to rescue. Her wonderful adoptive dad hurt his back and needs complete bed rest and surgery. Please consider opening up your heart and home to this special lady to find a home forever.

Do you have concerns about adopting an older dog. Please take a moment to read the Top 10 Reasons for Adopting a Senior Dog - it's so worth it. You will get a lifetime of love!

Trixie is a precious, red dapple, 11 year old, female Doxie who just wants to cuddle and be loved.  As Doxies go she's a bit of a big girl at 25 pounds!

Do you have concerns about adopting an older dog? Have a look at the Top Ten Reasons to Adopt a Senior Dog.  It's a very rewarding decision! Plus, Trixie is  eligible for the Seniors Loving Seniors program
Trixie's foster mom wrote the following bio about her:

Miss Trixie is an adorable older lady. Pictures of her do not do her justice. She loves to lie in the sun and have her belly rubbed. Trixie is the Queen of the Household and sometimes is called Her Royal Highness. Trixie is the first and last in line for treats. She likes other dogs but would rather be by herself and not share her person. She would do best in a home where she could be the only dog. She prefers to be treated like the Queen she is but truly loves people. Trixie walks great on a leash and would do great in home that had a big back yard or a small apartment. She gladly greets people and allows them to touch her and pick her up. She is not that friendly with other dogs! If you can give Trixie the furever home she deserves, please fill out an adoption application today!

If you are interested in adopting Trixie please visit her personal profile page or email her foster Mom, Yolanda at

Heidi is a senior Dachshund at a 11 years young. And that makes her eligible for the Seniors Loving Seniors Program. While her white muzzle might give away her age just look at the light and life in those eyes! She is completely house broken, is, at best, indifferent to cats and enjoys the company of other dogs. But she will not do well with young children. And oh yeah - she walks with a slight limp and her front teeth are almost completely ground down. But neither of these issues slows her down from either eating or playing!
Still have some concerns bout adopting a senior dog.  Read the Top 10 Reasons for Adopting a Senior Dog - it's so worth it.  You will get a lifetime of love!
Here's what Heidi's foster Mom had to say about her:

Heidi is a very sweet senior female Dachshund who loves to be cuddled and petted.  Heidi’s front teeth are completely worn down, but she does have intact molars.  Heidi’s tail wags constantly and she is extremely talkative.  She loves chewing rawhide twists, and the lack of front teeth does not keep her from enjoying them.  She also loves cat food, and I have to keep the cats’ food bowls out of her reach.  She enjoys running through the fallen leaves in the backyard, barking as she goes.  I don’t allow her to jump, and lift her up onto the sofa and down to the floor as needed.  I believe that Heidi has an allergy to fleas, so I feel it imperative that she be given regular flea prevention medication.

I have two cats who spend a great deal of time hanging around Heidi.  The only time Heidi becomes concerned is when one of the cats tries to share her meal.  Heidi is a little snappy if someone tries to reach in at her if she is in a cage or kennel (at the vet or traveling in a kennel) so you will have to be careful of that.  She does not do that if she is out and can greet someone on her terms.  She is a very happy dog and deserves the best possible forever home.  If I didn’t already have so many dogs of my own, I couldn’t bear to part with Heidi.  Please give Heidi a furever home to spend her senior years!

If you are interested in adopting Heidi please visit her personal profile page or email her foster Mom Cathy at Ladycat014@hotmail.com  for more information. And don't forget to look into the Seniors Loving Seniors Program.

ADOPTED!

Justin is a senior, male, smooth-coated Dachshund.  He's 10 years old and that makes him eligible for the Seniors Loving Seniors Program!

He weighs 19.5 pounds but he's on a diet so he can be nice and trim and fit for you.  His coat is a beautiful brown shade with a boar overcoat.  He's working on that pesky house breaking issue, loves other dogs, and will do OK with young children that know how to act around and handle a small pet.

Justin's foster mom helped him write this bio so you could get to know more about him:
I was surrendered by my mom just recently. I lived with her since I was just a tiny baby puppy. I am a beautiful dachshund with a soft coat and a warm heart. I love being snuggled and am always lying in my foster mom’s super comfy bed. I like other dogs, but I don’t need a companion to be happy. I am extremely calm and quiet, I almost never bark. I have some dental work to be done so my foster mom has been feeding me soft food which I think is so yummy! I am not food aggressive or toy aggressive. I love everyone I meet, and am always giving kisses. As you can see I need to lose a couple of pounds. My foster mommy is going to work with me to make sure that I am trim for my new furever home! I would do well in a low key home, but higher stress doesn’t bother me either. Please adopt me and give me a furever home that I deserve!

If you are interested in adopting Justin please visit his personal profile page or email his foster Mom, Laura at laurasdoxies@gmail.com for more information.

And don't forget to check out the Seniors Loving Seniors Program for this special guy!

Out of State adopters are welcome but Furever Dachshund Rescue does not ship animals.  Please contact them about volunteer or paid transport options
