Meet COOKIE, one of the sweetest little seniors out there! She is furry laid back, mild mannered and full of kisses and love that she demonstrates freely! Even though she’s 11 she still has energy to do what she wants. Her favorite past time is to watch the squirrels and fend her fosters honor by pawtekting them from those pesky varmints!

My BIO:
Hi!€ My name is Cookie. I am a lovable, mild-mannered, laid back girl. I like kids. My parents recently split and couldn’t take me with them. I think I’ve adapted well although I do need a lot of love and attention because I’m concerned about being abandoned again, thinking maybe I had done something wrong.  My foster parents and step foster parents have shown me lots of love, hugs and kisses and have let me know that I am still very special and someone is out there just waiting for me to give me a good home. My temporary home has two dachshunds and a temporary Dachsie visitor and I stayed with another really great foster mom for a week and they had kids and a cat and I just loved staying with those kids and I was very interested in the cat who was having none of it, so not sure of what I would have done if I could have got close...
I love to curl up on the couch next to you and give you lots of kisses or snuggle down under my blankie in my bed. I walk well with a harness but fight the collar. My foster mom just put in a doggie door and I love that! I can go outside anytime I want so I have become a huge lover of the outdoors and squirrel watching is my new favorite hobby. My other favorite thing in the whole wide world is curling up in my warm toastie pet cave. I also enjoy treats and am always anxious for a good meal, obviously I am a dachshund! I know my bio says that I am 11 years old, but except for the beautiful white nose, you wouldn’t know it. I'm very laid back and don't bark. But it alos makes me eligible for that special program called Seniors Loving Seniors! I’m not cranky or sluggish, but I’m not a bounce off the wall young pup either. I’m just right, right in the middle, with just enough energy to have fun with you or just chill out with you.
Will you please consider giving me a permanent home?

If you would like to learn more about me please contact my foster Mom, Charlotte Mixon, at fureverdachsie@yahoo.com. I currently reside in North Caroline but Furever Dachshund Rescue encourages out of state adoptions and will help to arrange volunteer or paid transport to get me to my new home.

Max

Max came to the rescue as a stray, he was found wandering the streets. A Good Samaritan found him, took him to a shelter, then notified the rescue! We pulled him as soon as we could!

Max is a very friendly, loveable boy! He has a “happy-go-lucky” attitude and just goes with the flow of things! He loves to be outside! Loves to play with other dogs and loves to be around children!

We are working on simple basic commands such as sit and stay (he’s pretty good at the “stay”, but we are working on the “sit”… his butt wiggles so much when he sits, that he can’t keep still!) We are also working on his manners (he’s a bit of a wild man right now)!  He is great with my grandson, who is almost 3, but we are working with Max to not jump on small children and to not to take food from their hands, unless offered.

Max is crate trained and does not mind being in the crate. But he would much rather be out playing or in your lap for a snuggle though!

He is currently a “work in progress” when it comes to potty training. He’s been very good if kept to a strict schedule, and has started to scratch/paw at the door when he wants to go out. He is catching on quickly! He is a very smart boy!

Max would do best with someone that would be able to take him for long walks or will have a fenced in yard for him to play in! If you have a child and another doxie to play with, that would be even better!

Max does not know that the word “stranger” exists in the human vocabulary! Every human or dog that he comes into contact with, he is eager to meet and eager to please!

Please feel free to contact his foster momma if you have any other questions or would like more info!! Amanda at rablack05@gmail.com

Max is located in Arkansas. Transport (paid or volunteer) can be arranged to get Max to his furever home!

Ginny

04/25/2013

UPDATED MAY 16TH: It turns out that Ginny is housebroken, crate trained and loves both people and other dogs. Our original assessment that she seemed to be afraid of other dos may have been that she was simply very nervous and frightened in the cold, scary shelter environment. But since being in foster care she has demonstrated her enjoyment of four-legged friend and would love to have a home with a playmate.
Picture
Hi my name is Ginny.  I’m a 4 year old lab/pittie mix and I desperately need a new home. Although you’d never know it from my personality, I have had a really rough life. I was used as a breeding dog and all of my babies were taken from me most likely to be used in fights. Once I was no longer useful, I was dropped off at a high –kill shelter where I suffered in a cage at the very end of the row for 3 months.  Day after day the few people who saw me just passed me by probably because of my breed when all I really wanted was someone to love me. If they would have just taken me out of my cage they would have seen that I’m just a lover, I love to lick, I love to roll over and get my belly rubbed, and I’m really smart and learned basic commands on my own. Finally though, on the day they were going to put me to sleep, my foster family agreed to get me out of there and let me live in their back yard. It’s getting hot though and I really need a home of my own. I am a little bit scared of other dogs so it’s probably best I live in a house with only one other dog or none at all. Either way, I will be your best friend. Now, when my foster family let’s me in at night, I follow them everywhere!

Do you have some concerns because this beautiful girl is a member of what some call the 'Bully Breeds?' I'd like to share some important information with you. First of all, please have a look at the list of dog breeds recognized as bully breeds. Once you look at the list you might be confused. You might wonder why some of these breeds are considered bully breeds. So take a moment to learn what the term bully breed really means. And if you still have some concerns please take a moment to see how well Pit Bull type dogs did on standard temperament testing. Their scores are better than so many popular breeds. And even if a Pit Bull is not for you, please take a few moments to review some of this information and become educated about these wonderful dogs.
Ginny is spayed, up to date on all her shots and microchipped. She weighs about 45 pounds, is very active and well behaved on the leash. Overall she's just a loving and adorable dog! If you would like to meet Ginny, or learn more about her, please contact Amy at 702-234-9860 or via email at aogden@comre.com.

Chapin

Picture
Meet Chapin. Available for foster or adoption through Recycled Pits. He is a 2 year old Pit Bull available for foster or adoption through Recycled Pits. Chapin is housebroken and crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, and gets along with dogs and people. But he's not too fond of cats! Unfortunately Chapin is deaf. But deaf dogs are very capable of learning sign language or 'hand commands' and Chapin has already proven himself to be responsive. Here's what Recycled Pits told me about him:

Chapin is just under 2 years old. He is absolutley beautiful with gorgeous blue eyes. He is fully vetted. Chapin is deaf, but is pretty responsive from what we can tell. He gets along great with all other dogs and people! I've even heard he has a thing for making people feel better.... He needs a foster to adopt home or a forever home.

Chapin is currently located in the Chicaco area. If you would like to learn more about her please visit her Facebook Page or contact her rescue by emailing Stana at Recycled.Pits@gmail.com and copy Bree.Recycled.Pits@gmail.com.

Phoebe

Picture
Phoebe is available for foster or adoption through Recycled Pits.

She is a 2.5 year old Pit Bull mix that is is housebroken and crate trained, and good with other dogs and people. But she is not very fond of cats.

Recycled Pits told me the following about Phoebe:

Phoebe is a pit mix and is approx 2.5 years old. She came to us from a high intake shelter. She was dumped there by her owners when they were done breeding her along with her 2 pups. Her 2 pups were fortunate enough to get homes, but she wasn't even going to be put on the adoption floor. Why? Because she has a slight heart murmur. (She can have a long healthy life, google it, it's quite more common then you would expect.) Phoebe has been attending obedience classes and gets along great with other dogs. She is a temp foster home and is looking for a foster to adopt or forever home. Since she gets along great with other dogs and kids and she's active, she would like a home like that or a place where someone can throw her a ball or two. But no cats please. She thinks cats drool and dogs rule.

By the way, I personally have owned 2 dogs with heart murmurs. Both had perfectly normal and full lives and spent lots of time and energy running around and fetching a ball.  Each lived well into their teen years!

Mama

Picture
Mama is available for foster or adoption through Recycled Pits!

She is a beautiful 1 1/2 year old female pit bull.  She is housebroken and crate trained, and loves everybody and everything except cats. Oh well - nobody's perfect. So PLEASE - no cats in Mama's house.

Here's what Mama's rescue told us about her:
Mama is a very sweet girl that just wants to please you. She is only about 1 1/2 years old and was owner surrendered. She was dumped at CACC because her owners could no longer sell her puppies. (so sad) She is fully vetted! She has gone through boot camp at Bully Barracks and did incredibly well! Mama does come with 3 FREE training sessions with her current trainer. She is good with other dogs and has never been around cats. So to be safe we will safe, NO CATS. She is a high energy dog, so a lot of play and training would be great for her new life. Please consider fostering or adopting Mama. She will jog with you or even catch a frisbee.

Mama is currently located in the Chicago area. If you would like to learn more about her please visit her Facebook Page or contact her rescue by emailing Stana at Recycled.Pits@gmail.com and copy Bree.Recycled.Pits@gmail.com.

I walk well on a leash and I understand basic commands. I’m a quiet girl. I’m always happy to meet new people. My tail is almost always wagging because I’m a happy little girl.

Maverick

ADOPTION PENDING

Picture
Maverick is a very puppyish wire haired dachshund. Since he has longer legs than a normal dachshund he might be a mix; either way he is very adorable. He was found as a stray in SW VA and when no one claimed him FDR took him in. He does wonderfully with the other dogs in the foster home and likes to go for rides in the car. Since he is still a young puppy he needs to learn all of the basic rules and a dog obedience class would be recommended.

He seems to be about a year old with a chocolate wiry coat and his two front paws are white! He's working on his housebreaking but is crate trained and seems to think cats are meant to be chased!

Maverick currently reside in Virginia but Furever Dachshund Rescue encourages out of state adoptions and will assist you in finding transport. If you are interested in learning more about him please visit his personal profile page or contact his foster Mom Yolanda at doxierescuer@aol.com.

Bonnie and Clyde

03/25/2013

Courtesy post for Furever Dachshund Rescue

Meet Bonnie and Clyde! They are a very bonded couple that wish to be adopted together. Bonnie is a 4 year old red long haired Doxie and her friend Clyde is a 6 year old black and tan long haired Doxie. She's a little girl at just 8 pounds and he's only slightly bigger at 10 pounds. Twice the love in just a little bit of space!!!
This adorable couple came into rescue as strays so not much is known about their past. But their foster Mom told us this about them:

Both of these babies love to play with toys and give sweet little kisses. They adore people and would love nothing more then to spend the evening watching TV and snuggling with their each other and their people. They love to be outside too but must be supervised closely as they are both quite the little escape artists. Both are also crate trained but would prefer to sleep with you.

Bonnie is a wonderful little sweetheart but she has a couple of issues we are working on. She gets along well with other dogs but can be lap aggressive. She also does not do well with cats. The urge to chase is just too great.

Clyde has a special affection for men. He wants nothing more than to be your new little buddy.
Bonnie and Clyde currently reside in Tennessee but Furever Dachshund Rescue encourages out of state adoptions and will assist you in finding transport. If you are interested in learning more about Bonnie and Clyde please visit their personal profile page or contact their foster Mom Lisa at lrdillard72@gmail.com. Remember, these little darlings are being offered as a bonded pair and should be adopted together!
