Courtesy post for Furever Dachshund UPDATE: MARTY ADOPTED
Marty the Smarty is an adorable, 2.5 year old, 16 pound, male Doxie. He's a smooth-coated, red boy with a bit of a black overlay to his shiny coat. He is neutered and crate trained and working hard on that pesky house breaking thing. But he does really well with the doggie door. He loves children, other dogs and even cats! Just look at the pix below. That's great for a Doxie. Marty's foster Mom wanted us to know a lot more about him. Here's what she had to say: Marty is an adorable Smarty pants! Hence the nick name! He has loads of personality and loves loves people! He longs to sleep in the big bed, follow his person everywhere and take plenty of long walks! He loves playing with other dogs, cats, kids or himself! He is quite a smart boy, figuring things out here very quickly. He used the doggie door within the first 5 minutes here! He figured out how to open the gate keeping him out of the forbidden carpeted living room, in about 15 minutes. Marty has a lot of love to give! He may even be Therapy dog material. He is a very special boy. In rescue he is the unusual, he shows no evidence of a damaged psyche, instead he is bursting with enthusiasm for life, despite coming from a breeder situation. Marty would excel in a home with opportunities to keep his active mind learning all the time! If you have been dreaming of the perfect companion that will bond heart to heart with you, who will run for the door when you pick up your keys, who beats you to the sofa when you are ready to relax, who will snuggle against you all night long, well look no further!

UPDATE: SHAWNA ADOPTED Hello, my name is Shawna. I am a two-year-old Shepherd mix with a relaxed, gentle temperament and a smile for everyone. People say I look like a small ridgeback (without the ridge!); I have golden eyes and a tan coat complimented by a black nose and a black-tipped tail. On arrival in DC I spent one night with a foster family and made myself at home right away! I had great fun playing with my foster siblings and delighted my foster mother by learning some basic commands in record time. I walk well on a leash and love being out and about, but most of all I am looking forward to chilling and snuggling with a family of my own.

UPDATE: ADOPTED! Hi, my name is Hans, and I'm a perky 10-month-old lab mix. I have a glossy black coat with white tufts on my feet and under my chin. My favorite things are long walks and making friends with people and other dogs. I'm a cheerful, happy boy, but I had a taste of family life in my foster home and am longing for a family of my own. In the meantime I am working hard on my leash training and basic commands so that I can be the best possible companion for my new people

Courtesty post for City Dogs Recue UPDATE: DEXTER ADOPTED Hi, I am Dexter. I am a handsome Shepherd/Shar Pei/Lab mix. I like to play tug-o-war with my leash. I have a big booming bark that means I want attention. I am great with all sizes of dogs, puppies included as long as they aren't dominant dogs. I wound up at the shelter because my owner could not care for me anymore (for reasons unrelated to me).

Courtesty post for City Dogs Recue UPDATE: STUBS ADOPTED Hello! I am called Stubs, on account of my stubby tail: it may be short, but it never stops wagging! I’m two years old and a very sociable boy; I love going for walks and meeting humans and other dogs – not to mention the occasional squirrel. If you’ve looked at my pictures you will have seen that I am a lean, medium-sized fellow with a perkily handsome profile that reflects my Labrador Retriever/MiniaturePinscher heritage. At 35 lbs I’m told I am the perfect size for the city and life in an apartment or a house. I have bags of energy, but I do know how to be patient too. I’m not one of those dogs who barks when he’s crated. Living with a foster family is great fun, but I would so love to find a forever home of my own. If you’re looking for a super affectionate, energetic, life-loving addition to your family then look no further: Just contact City Dogs and ask for Stubs!

Courtesy post for Furever Dachshund UPDATE: ADOPTED My Name is Conrad. I am a 3 year old male, neutered, black and tan, smooth-coated Doxie. I weigh only 15 pounds, am house broken and crate trained, and know how to use the doggie door. I’m a little bit shy and young children might make me nervous, but I love people, dogs and cats. Snuggling with you is one of my favorite pastimes.
My foster Mom wants you to get to know me so she wrote this little Bio about me:
Conrad was found lost and afraid in a small town in Missouri. He was headed to the pound when a good Samaritan offered him refuge. He is very good natured, but a bit shy at first. He does great using a doggie door and loves walking! He prefers a harness to a leash, (who doesn’t?) Conrad is a lovely sweet boy who just wants to be friends with everyone! He gets along with other dogs and even the cat. He is a playful pooch that also loves to cuddle His gentle nature, make him an easy addition to any family! If you want a companion for yourself or another dog, he is an excellent prospect. Can you offer him a furever home?

UPDATE: AUTUMN ADOPTED Autumn is a beautiful little girl who just happens to be a Staffordshire Terrier. And as she states in her twitter profile, don't judge her for being a member of that breed. Instead, learn more about the Staffordshire Terrier breed, one of the breeds that is generally, and unfortunately, referred to under the 'bully breed' label. In fact, maybe you'd like to learn more about 'bully breeds' in general. And while you're at it have a look at the Temperament Testing Results for these wonderful dogs. So now that you've done a little research on the Staffy, let's talk about Autumn. She entered the shelter as a young stray and has now been there for over 6 months. She clearly demonstrated that she'd had little or no training upon arriving at the shelter. But the staff has worked with her, and being a highly intelligent Staffy, she is now obeying the basic commands, learning tricks, and running the agility course. When off leash she has exhibited flawless recall. On top of that, despite having spent so much time in the kennel, she is house-broken and working on crate training. All of this proves that Autumn has tremendous potential as a well behaved house pet. She has even had occasional opportunities to attend sleepovers at the homes' of shelter workers. During these outings she has been well behaved in the home and has demonstrated her great desire for love and cuddling with her humans. Autumn has found life in the kennel to be frustrating and a bit stressful. The shelter staff are helping her deal with this by giving her as much activity as possible. All Staffy's need stimulation to avoid boredom and frustration. So agility workouts are really great for her. And if you took her home long walks and outings in the park would also keep her happy and stimulated. She can play a bit roughly at times, but that is likely a combination of releasing her frustration when finally able to run about and the exuberant energy of such a young dog! She is sometimes vocal toward other dogs when on leash but does fine when she is allowed off leash. So she's probably just complaining until she's set free to run. Autumn is a brindle and white Staffy of about 1 year of age. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and fully vetted. Clearly she has had a rough start in live and yet continues to show her capacity to learn, to love, and to live. She simply needs that special person who will recognize her potential and give her the loving home she deserves. Autumn currently resides at the Millbrook animal Centre. You can find more about her on their website. And if you are unable to adopt her but wish to help please 'like' her FaceBook page and follow her on twitter at @AutumnTheStaffyIf you are interested in adopting Autumn please contact: Millbrook Animal Centre Guildford Road Chobham Surrey GU24 8EH Tel: 0300 123 0740
UPDATE: LOGAN ADOPTED Logan is a 4 year old, male, neutered red long haired Doxie. He's a tiny little boy at just 11 pounds. He's working on his house-breaking skills. He's very happy in the company of his foster furry friends and loves his humans too. Logan's foster Mom helped him write this Bio so you could get to know a bit more about him: My name is Logan and no one is quite sure of my background prior to my ending up at a shelter in SW Virginia. A nice lady saved me from there and then I came into my Foster Mom’s home to join her other furbabies. I love playing with them and they’re helping me with my potty training; if they go out, I’m right there with them. Foster Mom thinks part of my problem is that she has to work and I can’t wait all day but, I’m getting better every day! Foster Mom also says I’m like having a live stuffed toy – I’m so little and all soft and cuddly. I’m a real lover boy and like nothing better than to curl up on her lap and take my power naps. I definitely need a power nap so that I can play, play, play! I’d really like a home with some furbaby friends. I sleep in my own bed but would love to be in the big bed; I’ve tried several times but Foster Mom is too fast and always manages to shuttle me back to my own bed. Oh, one more thing… Foster Mom says anyone will be lucky to have me; she said she’d keep me herself if she didn’t already have so many furbabies. Please fill out an adoption application so I can go to my furever home! If you'd like to learn more about Logan please visit his Personal Profile page or contact his foster Mom, Diane, at diane0116@earthlink.net
